Conservation Commission
The mission of the Holden Conservation Commission is to protect wetlands and water quality in town by administering the Massachusetts Wetland Protection Act (WPA) and the local wetland bylaw which has been extremely successful in regulating projects and reducing environmental degradation. The Commission conducts monthly public hearings for various projects and routinely monitors permitted projects. In January 2022, the Commission was awarded a Forest Stewardship Grant from the DCR and has completed a 10-year Forest Stewardship Plan for the 158-acre Town Forest located off Harris Street. The Commission frequently co-ordinates efforts with local land trusts for the long-term preservation of important open space parcels.
