HPD is divided into six general areas of responsiblity. Because we are a relatively small department, there is some overlap of functions.

ADMINISTRATIVE 
Staff:

  • Part-time Clerk (civilian)

Duties:

  • Accounting & budgeting
  • Records & public records requests
  • State Certification
  • Personnel
  • Sex Offender Registry

DETECTIVE BUREAU
Staff:

  • Detective Sergeant
  • Full-time Detective

Duties:

  • Criminal case investigation & management
  • Crime scene processing
  • Drug analysis
  • Contraband & property

ANIMAL CONTROL
Staff:

  • Full-time Animal Control Officer
  • Part-time Animal Control Officer

Duties:

  • Responding to animal-related calls
  • Enforcing laws & bylaws
  • Educating the public 
  • Conducting an annual rabies clinic
  • Assisting the Town Clerk’s office with dog licensing
  • Assisting the Public Health Agent

TRAFFIC DIVISION

(The Traffic & Support divisions consist of four full time Sergeants, nine full time patrolmen, and additional staff where noted)

Duties:

  • Cruiser maintenance
  • Radar equipment testing & maintenance
  • Breathalyzer testing, maintenance, & certification
  • Radar & traffic assignments
  • Private duty details
  • Line painting
  • Town-wide patrol & call response

SUPPORT DIVISION
(The Traffic & Support divisions consist of four full time Sergeants, nine full time patrolmen, and additional staff where noted)

Additional Staff:

  • One full time Court Officer
  • One full time School Resource Officer at WRHS
  • Four full time dispatchers
  • Five part time dispatchers

Duties:

  • All dispatch training & functions
  • Firearms & taser inventory, inspection, & certification
  • NIBRS reporting
  •  State database testing & validation
  • E911 recordings
  • Scheduling
  • Facility
  • LiveScan fingerprint system
  • Town-wide patrol & call response
