- Remember to turn off lights that are not needed, for instance, in unused rooms.
- Replace incandescent light bulbs with new, energy efficient LED lights. Light Emitting Diode (LED’s) save energy, and last longer.
- When purchasing appliances, look for the Energy Star logo. The Energy Star is only awarded to appliances that significantly exceed the minimum nation efficiency standards.
- Use your microwave oven in place of your range when possible. Microwave ovens reduce consumption and cook food in a fraction of the time.
- When you do use your oven, bake several dishes that can be cooked at the same temperature together in the oven.
- Regularly check your refrigerator or freezer door gasket for signs of deterioration.
- Every few months it’s a good idea to vacuum or brush the cooling coils in the back of your refrigerator.
- Whenever possible, try cold water washing when using your washing machine.
- Wash a full load of laundry at a time, likewise, dry full loads-but avoid overloading.
- Clean the lint screen in your dryer before every load.
