Director’s Report:

Before/After School Programs – All schools are running at maximum capacity with the exception of Davis Hill After School Program has 50.

Adult Programs – Classes being offered this session include:  Bootcamp, Cardio Kickboxing, CCYO, Cardio-Kickboxing & Kettlebell, Gentle Hatha Yoga, Hatha Yoga, Re-shape Scrambler and Yoga for Ever “Body”.  Men’s basketball and women’s volleyball have had strong weekly attendance.  Meditation for Well-Being & Weigh Loss, Pound, Women’s Drop-In Basketball and Zumba all had to be cancelled due to low enrollment.

Children’s Classes – Beat the Winter Blues, Babysitter’s Training and Kid’s Yoga – “Let’s Play.  Impress and Kids Night In were cancelled due to low enrollment.  Classes scheduled for early April are Kid’s Boat Building Challenge and Painting Workshop.

Summer:  The summer brochures were distributed to the three elementary schools in February.  Recreation pass sales started Monday March 4.  This was changed to March 5 due to a snow storm.  Notification went out on Facebook and the Town website on Friday March 1, 2019.  We’ve sold 73 family passes, 77 single resident passes, 2 senior passes, 3 nanny passes and 22 non-resident passes.  Staff from last year have been contacted to see if they are interested in returning this summer.  Denise is accepting applications now and interviews will be conducted during the April school vacation.  Registration for the summer programs begins on Monday April 1, 2019 at 9:00 a.m., online only.   Denise has been in contact with Myrec about registration day.  They will have extra staff working that day and have assured her that things will go smoothly.

Miscellaneous:  Denise had her budget hearing with the Finance Committee on March 6, 2019, it went very well.  Capital projects this year include repairing cracks, painting and sealcoating the tennis and basketball courts at Dawson Rec., installing landing impact material on the Town’s playgrounds and addressing the field conditions on the Mayo baseball and soccer fields.    Last fall a drain was uncovered at Mayo by the DPW which has allowed for some drainage.   It is unclear as to the level of work the fields will need until after the snow and rainy season have passed.  There will also be lines painted at Dawson Rec for Pickleball on the single tennis court and the paddleball court.   This is the fastest growing sport in America.  Denise has been in contact with the Ambassador of Pickleball for our area.   A video presentation and demonstration is planned for Thursday, April 4, 2019 at 12:30 at the Holden Senior Center.  After that it will be advertised.  Melissa asked if Denise had looked into “Pink Gloves”.  She has and it is very expensive and there are very few places that offer it.

Motion made by Erin Bradbury, seconded by Robin Grady to adjourn at 7:40.

The next Recreation Committee meeting will be held on Tuesday April 9, 2019 @ 7:00 p.m. in the Recreation Office.

Respectfully submitted,

Teresa Brown, Sr. Clerk
