Director’s Report

Before/After School Programs – Davis Hill and Dawson School are at maximum capacity with 52 children in the mornings and afternoons.  Mayo has 52 in the morning and 51 in the afternoon.

Adult Programs – A new session of classes begins this month.  Classes include Cardio Kickboxing and Kettlebell – 4 currently registered; CCYo – 4 registered; Gentle Hatha Yoga – 5 registered; Hatha Yoga – 21 registered; Pound – 4 registered; Re-Shape Scrambler – currently 5 registered.  This class is being offered to Town employees before going to the public.  A press release will go out and it will open up to the public 1/16/19.  Yoga for Every “Body” – 3 registered; Butts and Guts has 7 currently registered.  Biggest weight loss Challenge was cancelled due to low enrollment.  Melissa suggested a “Pink Glove Boxing” class.  This is synchronized boxing, also for empowering women.  Denise will look into the possibilities of offering a class.

Children’s Classes – A Babysitter’s Training Class will take place on Wednesday 2/20/19, with 15 boys and girls registered.  There is a wait list with 7 currently on it, hopefully another class can be added in March.  A Cake Decorating class is scheduled for Tuesday 2/19/19, with 5 currently registered.  A new class “Kids Night In” scheduled for Friday, 2/22/19 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.  This class is for grades

2 – 6 and offers an hour of craft class followed by an hour of playful Yoga.  Comfy cloths/pajamas are suggested attire.  Rob asked if any Kid classes could take place in the After School Program.  Denise reported that such a program would add additional charges and with all the activities that go on in the school it would be very complicated.

Miscellaneous:

Denise met with the Holden Youth Sports leagues representatives last week to discuss the field assignments for the spring, summer and fall.  Mayo fields will be off line for the spring and summer to address the drainage and wetness issues.  The two field were destroyed because of teams playing on extremely wet fields.  Denise reiterated the need to stay off the fields during inclement weather and was able to accommodate all sports team’s needs.  A drain pipe on the Mayo field has been uncovered which allowed for a substantial flow of water to come out.  There will be further inspection of the fields to see if the wetness problem can be solved.

There will be a change with pool pass sales dates and the program registration dates.  Pass sales will begin on Monday, March 4th at 9:00 a.m.  Passes can be purchased online or in person.  Registration for residents will begin Monday, April 1st at 9:00 a.m.  Non-resident registration will begin Tuesday, April 2nd at 9:00 a.m.  Registration for all programs is on-line only.  There will no longer be early registration for the families currently enrolled in the Before and After School Programs.

Thank you to you and your families for your assistance at the Santa program.  It was a wonderful event, with a great turnout.  Denise sent thank you cards to Pastor John and Santa.  She also thanked everyone in a letter to the editor at the Landmark.  We received $61.00 in donations!  The Town Planner was impressed with the Santa program and thanked Denise, it was the best event she has been to.

Motion made by Erin Bradbury, seconded by Melissa Staiti to adjourn at 7:50.

The next Recreation Committee meeting will be held on Tuesday February 12, 2019 @ 7:00 p.m. in the Recreation Office.

Respectfully submitted,
