ATTENTION RESIDENTS REPLACING COMBINATION SMOKE/CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS

Under Massachusetts Fire Code 527 CMR 1.00,13.7.2.1.5, smoke detectors must be replaced once they reach 10 years from the manufacture date. The Holden Fire Department has found that many replacement combination smoke/carbon monoxide detectors purchased online do not conform to Massachusetts code requirements. All combination smoke/carbon monoxide detectors under the current code must have a voice feature to distinguish between alarms. Please contact the Fire Department at (508) 210-5650 if you have any questions regarding smoke and carbon monoxide detectors being sold by online retailers or refer to the Holden Fire Department Guidelines for Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Requirements
