  1. OPM Report:  Gary Kaczmarek gave a construction update. The site contactor has been installing  underground structures in the west and south side of the building.  They are grading a new roadway in front to get the buses around in the same pattern as the old school. They are moving forward with the utility installation. The rear parking binder is in.  The under ground light bulb base conduits are installed. Paving is scheduled for the week of the 17th. The masons are almost done. They have a little brick to do on the maintenance building. MEP is moving forward into A building. Painting is complete on the 2nd floor. The 3rd floor is 90% complete. LGMF is progressing in the gym, locker rooms and kitchen.  The rainscreen under the windows is moving to the south elevation. They are prepping for the generator pad. Paul Challenger asked about the staff count. Gary said it has dropped a little but there is enough on site. Communication is good between LPA & CTA. RFI’s have been answered as soon as they get them. They are conducting weekly walk throughs.

Budget Summary: Gary reported that the budget is going along well. He presented CO#6 and asked the committee to review and approve. It states that a food chopper was deleted and a credit was taken. There were also some other minor changes. Chris Lucchesi motioned to approve CO #6, seconded by Bob McCarthy. All were in favor to approve CO#6.

Gary started a discussion referring to the new entrance & exit road and its curbing. As you come in the road there is granite curbing that transitions into a concrete berm. This continues all the way down around the curve for 100 feet then back to granite in the hard surface parking area. It then transitions back to concrete. In his opinion it should be continuous granite curbing for the entire curb. The island should also be granite curbing. He feels the plows will chew the asphalt curb up. Approximately 300 feet of additional curbing is needed at approximately $30/foot. This would bring the granite curbing all the way to where the new road turns into the parking lot. Jacquie Kelly asked if it is only for esthetics.  Gary said it is for both esthetics and longevity. The strength of the road would last longer. Mike Pagano stated that he thinks it is an excellent idea. It will give a far more durable and stable edge. Larry Galkowski is concern the granite will heave over time and feels extra pavement might be a good option.  Mike said he would research the granite under the earth. Chris Lucchesi thinks granite edge will give a better look and will last longer. Paul Challenger asked Gary look into the 2 options with prices.

Gary reported the price to look into the canopy will be $26,000 for the architect to move forward with a ballpark figure of $300,000 to $350,000 to do the canopy. Mike wanted to let the committee know that this change will affect the structure of the site, drainage etc. It may also upset the schedule. CTA will present a CO. Dave White is concerned about not doing it. The parents will complain. Jacquie Kelly asked if the original design included any canopies. Mike said there is a small one at the entrance. Paul asked the committee if there is any desire to spend $300,000 to $350,000 on a canopy. Margaret Watson is in favor of a canopy. She stated that kids are going to school not dress for the weather. Chris Lucchesi said his high school had a similar circumstance and there was a covered canopy. He feels over long term it is the right thing to look at and evaluate it. He is in favor of pursuing it but the question is how to do it cost effectively. Paul asked the committee if they want to ask LPA to design. Dave White motioned to move to spend $26,000 to ask LPA to design a canopy, Bob McCarthy seconded all in favor - 6 were in favor 1 against (Jacquie Kelly). Mike reminded the committee that this will affect CTA starting the sidewalks and if they are delayed it will cost.

  1. LPA Update: Mike Pagano is optimistic that CTA is on a good schedule and the quality is high. Bill Senecal stated the FF&E is close to being complete. The last piece is the final maintenance equipment. They are right on budget, and will start bidding in September and October for the equipment.

  1. Misc: There will be a bronze plaque for the dedication of the Nancy Galkowski Media Center. A plaque for the Mountview time capsule is still needed.

Mike wanted to let the committee know the luncheon was very successful. The food was high quality. He talked to a dozen tradesmen and the vibe is very optimistic. Gary said they were very appreciative and thankful.

Paul Challenger suggested having a tour for others beyond the committee this fall. Gary said September is too soon. They will make plans at a later date.
