HOLDEN COMMUNITY GARDEN COMMITTEE MINUTES
December 6, 2017

Mission Statement:

The Holden Community Garden Committee is a volunteer organization working to provide and support Holden residents, individually and collectively, to grow food, flowers, fruits, and herbs on town land including the redeveloped property on Highland Street.  Our efforts will enable residents to enjoy the beauty of our town while developing a sense of community through cooperative action, learning about sustainable and environmentally conscious gardening as well as ethical harvesting.

The Holden Community Garden Committee also exists to foster the education of the children of Holden through the support of community gardens in local schools and community groups.  These gardens will help to develop the appreciation of future generations for the importance of agriculture and responsible environmental practices, and provide education and positive experiences through gardening and physical activity.

In Attendance:  Marcia Hastbacka, Chair:  Members:  Jessica Cosenza,  Mike Trigiano

Not In Attendance:  Ryan Fahey, Tanya Lewis

Meeting called to order at 6:40 p.m.

AGENDA:

Review of 11/8 17 Meeting

Because there was not a quorum at this meeting, the minutes of the 11/8 meeting were not able to be voted and approved and will be tabled until the next meeting to be held on 2/21/18.

BUDGET UPDATE

Marcia reported that she had spoken with Peter Lukes and there is no update on our Budget proposal.

TOWN MEETING REPORTS

Marcia reported that the Committee Meeting reports are due at the end of January.  These reports are published in the 2017 Annual Town Report book.  Jess will do the report on Davis Hill and Marcia will do the report on the Community Garden.

175 HIGHLAND STREET

Jess reported that she had been in contact with a prospective gardener who wanted to know if we would have raised beds for handicapped/physically limited gardeners.  We discussed this and feel since we have some remaining lumber (donated by Habitat), we could plan some designated spaces for raised beds. The remaining time was spent discussing  contacts for manure/other supplies, Boy Scout/volunteer assistance, recruitment of new members, etc.

BECAUSE WE DID NOT HAVE A QUORUM, NO MOTIONS WERE MADE OR VOTES TAKEN.

Meeting was adjourned at 7:10pm.

Our next meeting will be February 7, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. in Memorial Hall.
