HOLDEN COMMUNITY GARDEN COMMITTEE MINUTES (NOTES)
March 6, 2018

Mission Statement:

The Holden Community Garden Committee is a volunteer organization working to provide and support Holden residents, individually and collectively, to grow food, flowers, fruits, and herbs on town land including the redeveloped property on Highland Street.  Our efforts will enable residents to enjoy the beauty of our town while developing a sense of community through cooperative action, learning about sustainable and environmentally conscious gardening as well as ethical harvesting.

The Holden Community Garden Committee also exists to foster the education of the children of Holden through the support of community gardens in local schools and community groups.  These gardens will help to develop the appreciation of future generations for the importance of agriculture and responsible environmental practices, and provide education and positive experiences through gardening and physical activity.

AGENDA:

Review of Notes from 2/22/18 Meeting

The minutes from the 2/22/18 meeting were approved.  Since there was not a quorum at the 2/22/18 meeting, the minutes are being submitted as notes.

PLANNING OF GARDEN RULES & REGULATIONS, APPLICATION FORM & RELEASE FORMS

Sample garden rules and regulations, application form, and release form from several local community gardens were distributed to the members.  We reviewed all the items on the forms and decided which parts to incorporate in the HCG forms.  Jess will review and send to Marcia the final forms for approval at our next meeting.  It was decided to ask Peter Lukes if the town has a release form that they would like the HCG to use.  Marcia will check with Peter regarding the release form, who the applicant should make the check payable to (i.e. Town of Holden), and if the cost for a plot should be $25.00.  At the next meeting we will plan the layout of the garden to include place for the water cistern, and where the raised beds and garden plots should be located, and size of each.

DAVIS HILL UPDATE

Jess reported there were no updates.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:00 pm.

Our next meeting will be March 28, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. in the Starbard Building.
