Holden Community Garden Committee

October 20, 2015

Mission Statement: To educate and empower people of all ages and diverse backgrounds by creating a central place of wellness where anyone or everyone has an opporutnity to develop or enhance their awareness of the nutritional value of local organic food, the importance of environmental stewardship, and reconnecting with nature all while recapturing a sense of community.

Also in attendance was John Woodsmall, Director of Public Works; Jay Norton; Principal at Davis Hill Elementary School (remotely)

Not in attendance: Eileen Charbonneau; Todd Miller

September 29, 2015 Minutes voted and approved.

  • John Woodsmall updated Committee on DPW's commitment for Davis Hill property. DPW can clear area late fall, early winter. He stated a few days would be needed to clear out the area and 3-4 trucks can complete the work, 1 large chipper truck can clean up. (chips can remain on site for mulching around garden beds)
  • Grant opportunity discussed & application reviewed for garden at Davis Hill. First 75 to raise 400, starting 11/15 earn matching 400. Fundraising for this grant ends 12/15. Other grants are available if not 1st 75.
  • Discussed a benefit for November 15 (opening day of grant fundraising) or Thanksgiving weekend. Also discussed other fundraising ideas to raise money for the grant.
  • Committee members viewing Davis Hill property October 4, 9:30 a.m.
