May 7, 2018

Call to order

Jim Kempton called to order the regular meeting of the Holden Department of Public Works Facility Committee (DPW FC) at 7:25 on May 7, 2018 at Holden Municipal Light Department, 1 Holden Street, Holden, MA.

There was a general discussion regarding the Open House being well received. The new pamphlets can be dropped off at games. The presence on Facebook is growing.

3. OPM Update

4. Designer Update (W&S)

Jim Kempton reviewed an email he received from Jeff Alberti at Weston and Sampson. The bid alternate for the Vehicle Storage Garage and Canopy worked out to $778,410.

Based on the recent bid results in Longmeadow, Jim felt that the design and construction contingencies could be reduced, the bid alternates could be budgeted, and that the total project estimate could remain around $18M.  The committee agreed that the bid alternates should be seriously considered.

There was a general discussion regarding the pros and cons of accepting a low bidder.
