Complete Street Program

The Complete Streets Project will begin this summer.  The projects are located on Highland Street (Route 31) and Lovell Road, which includes pedestrian infrastructure improvements for both seniors and school-aged children, providing critical connections to multiple community points of interest.

The Highland Street project will construct a new sidewalk on the south side of Highland Street between Main Street and Bascom Parkway, new ADA-compliant ramps, crosswalks and sidewalk repairs at multiple locations along the north side of Highland Street between Main Street and Nola Drive. The project will provide ADA-compliant connections to the Holden Public Library, Town Hall, Center for Aging and Farmer’s Market, while also providing ADA-compliant connections to the Davis Hill Elementary School.

The Lovell Road project creates a pedestrian connection between Dorothy Avenue and Jamieson Road.  This connection will providing pedestrian access connection to Davis Hill Elementary School. The project will also construct a new sidewalk on the east side of Lovell Road between Dorothy Avenue and Jamieson Road, new ADA-compliant ramps, and crosswalk improvements.

Both Projects are funded by a grant received from the Complete Streets Program of the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.

These improvements were identified as part of the Town’s Complete Streets Prioritization Plan. This project was ranked as the number one project in the Town’s Prioritization Plan. The Town’s Complete Streets Map and Prioritization Plan is available on the Towns website for public comment:
