Infiltration/Inflow Project II

The Town of Holden Department of Public Works, Water & Sewer Division is currently in the process of cleaning and inspecting with closed circuit television (CCTV) approximately 40,000 linear feet of sewer line in the center of town area. This work is part of a 10-year plan to inspect and repair the Division’s sewer infrastructure to reduce Infiltration and Inflow into the sewer system. Infiltration is water entering the system from the ground as a result of leaking pipe joints or pipe connections.  Inflow is the direct connection of sources that should not be connected into the sewer system. Examples of inflow include house gutters, sump pumps, and catch basins.  The Division pays to treat the amount of sewer that travels through the pipes, therefore any flow that is in the sewer that should not be there is paid for. Weston and Sampson Engineers and National Water Main Cleaning are performing this work.  It is expected to continue through the end of May 2017. Once the inspections are completed, problem areas will be analyzed and a construction project will be created to correct the issues.
