Quinapoxet Street Emergency Culvert Replacement

Following the recent closure of Quinapoxet Street due to the failure of the culvert for Warren Tannery Brook, located between Summit Street and Tannery Drive, the Town conducted an emergency procurement process for a contractor to replace the culvert. R. Bates & Sons, Inc. of Sterling, MA was the low quoter for the emergency contract, and was awarded a contract on December 1.

Last week, the Contractor began mobilizing to the site to begin the work related to the emergency replacement. Work activities have concentrated on preparing the bypass pumping and dewatering system, while awaiting the delivery of the new culvert pipes. Delivery of the new pipes is anticipated this week, and work will begin immediately for the replacement of the culverts.

The work to install the new culvert pipes, form and pour the new concrete headwalls, backfill the pipes, remove the bypass system, and then restore the pavement of the roadway is expected to take a few weeks. Weather permitting, we are planning on the roadway being back open to traffic in January.
