Director’s Report

Before/After School Programs - All 3 elementary schools are at maximum capacity with 312 children enrolled. We have had some movement but were able to take children from waitlists and fill the spots.

Denise went over the adult programs:

Hatha Yoga, Gentle Hatha Yoga, CCYO, and Barre Classes – Continue to get positive registrations, and all classes will be repeated for the next session.

Hula Hoop – Very well received, another class has been added.

Men’s Basketball and Women’s Volleyball – All doing well on the drop-in basis.

Butts & Guts – Adding two more classes to begin in April.

Time Out and Happy Hour – Held at Trout Brook.

Barre-Bell – Combines Barre and kettlebells starts 4/26/17 and runs for 8 weeks.

Meditation Class – Two hour workshop scheduled for May 12, 2017.

PiYo – Combination of pilattes and yoga starts May 1, 2017 and runs for 8 weeks.

Teen Class – Impress – is geared at teen athletes and fitness enthusiast looking to improve performance, resistance, endurance, speed and strength.

Lil’ Yogi’s – For children 2 – 5 years old, starting April 26, 2017.  Nancy asked about Yoga for elementary age.  It would be difficult to schedule, also the schools have enrichment programs that recreation does not want to interfere with.

Summer:

Employment - Numerous positions need to be filled.  Phone calls have gone out to last year’s staff to determine the need for this year.  Applications are being accepted, and interviewing beings the week of April vacation.

Brochures – Printed and distributed to the elementary schools.

Resident Pool Passes – Went on sale Monday, 4/3/17, and can be purchased on line.

Non-Resident Pool Passes – Selectmen voted to double the price to $156 and limited the number of available passes to 200, down from 400.  To date 120 passes have been sold. Prices for Non-residents, non-pass holders who want to take part in any programs are being given that opportunity, however, the price is doubled.  They must also buy a day pass should they decide to stay and swim.  The Committee discussed the steep increase in non-resident passes.  Members questioned why the recreation department was not asked for input and why there was no discussion prior to the Selectmen decision.  All members voiced their concerns and strongly feel it is an unjust increase.

All Day Program – Early registration for students currently enrolled in the Before and After school Program was held Thursday, 4/6/17 at 9:00 a.m. – Sunday, 4/9/17 at midnight. This is an 8 week program with 65 children per week, 493 of the 520 slots have been filled. Week      4 – 8 are filled to capacity.

Registrations – Resident begins Saturday 5/13/17 at 9:00 a.m. and is online.

Non-resident begins Sunday 5/14/17 at 9:00 a.m. and also online.

Pools – Scheduled to open, weekends only, beginning Saturday, 6/3/17 from noon – 4:45.  The season opens on the last day of school, currently 6/23/17 at 1:00.
