Recreation Committee Minutes

March 10, 2015

Erin called the Recreation Committee meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Minutes:     

A motion was made by Melissa and seconded by Erin to accept  the minutes of the January 13, 2015 meeting.

The minutes of January 13, 2015 were approved unanimously.

 

Director’s Report

 

Programs:

         

Denise went over the numbers for the Before/After School Program. Davis Hill: morning, 52 – afternoon, 51; Dawson: morning, 29 – afternoon, 52; Mayo: morning, 52 – afternoon, 52. We currently have 288 children registered. We also have a waitlist with 32 children. Denise added that we have been maintaining great numbers all year.

Denise went over the numbers for Adult classes. Hatha Yoga – Tuesday mornings starting March 17 currently has 10 enrolled, and the Thursday morning class started March 5 and has 8 registered; Yoga for Every “Body” starting March 12 has 3 registered – the current class has 10; Conversational French – 10 registered; Zumba starts March 26, but we have 8 in the current class; CCYo – 10 enrolled; Re-Shape current class has 11 and the class begins again on March 24 with 3 registered; Cross country skiing had 4 registered, the class had some cancellations this year due to weather and will be concluding soon. Men’s basketball and Women’s volleyball continue to have good numbers with 20 for Men’s basketball and around 15 for Women’s volleyball. Sometimes the numbers for Men’s basketball spikes. A couples fitness class is being offered on Friday evenings beginning April 10. A cardio – sculpt class began today with 5 registered. We are also offering this class in the evenings with a date TBT. Denise added that the classes are running full speed ahead and doing a great job.

Denise went over the numbers for Youth classes. Babysitter’s Training to be held March 21 and 28 sold out with 12 registered. We are looking to have another class during April Vacation. Yoga for Teens – 12 registered.  Nancy asked about a Yoga class for younger kids. Denise answered that we will look into that for September.  Yoga for Teens had a good response and they will be adding another class. 2 new painting classes are being offered to middle and high school students on Tuesday April 21 of vacation week.

Melissa asked if there will be babysitting provided for the couple’s class. Nancy and Robin suggested that the kids taking the Babysitter Training class could do this as extra training.

Summer:

Pass sales begin April 1 online for residents, but non-residents must come to the office. Pick up for online purchased passes can be done easily at the office with a receipt. Registration begins Saturday May9 for residents and Sunday, May 10 for non-residents. All registrations are to be completed online.  

 Letters to parents of children currently enrolled in the Before/After School programs have been sent out to inform them of the early registration, April 2-5, they can take advantage of for the All Day Program. Denise added this is our thank you for being loyal customers. Melissa commented on what a great program the Summer Program is. Nancy asked what the hours are. Denise answered the hours are 8:00am – 5:30pm and you can pay $10 for early drop off. Melissa also commented on how great the staff is. Denise agreed they are great kids and she tips her hat to them.

Phone calls have been made to last year’s staff to see if they have an interest in returning this summer. Denise added that it is good news a lot of them are coming back. I am excepting applications now, and will set up interviews in April, to fill open slots.

Summer brochures will be distributed to schools within 2 weeks.
