Programs:

Denise went over the numbers for the Before/After School Programs:    Davis Hill morning - 52, afternoon - 48; Dawson morning - 39, afternoon - 52; Mayo morning - 52, afternoon - 52.  Denise added that staff are doing very well taking care of 295 children daily and she tips her hat to them.

Denise went over an issue with a child at the Dawson Before School Program who was terminated. There were a few incidents that preceded this one and she felt it was best for the safety of all the children involved to terminate this child from the program. The police were notified and the principal was in full agreement with the decision.

Denise went over the numbers for the adult and children classes:  Barre Fusion which uses small hand weights and other light equipment have 5 registered; Barre Fitness begins 3/9 – 7 currently registered; Beginner’s Yoga begins 3/9 – 3 currently registered; Core Pilates with Yoga – next session begins 3/29; CCYO – next session begins 3/31 and 4/12; Friday Flow Yoga – next session begins 3/18 – 2 currently registered; Hatha    Yoga – Tuesday and Thursday mornings begin this week with 24 enrolled; Yoga for Every “Body” begins 3/31. Denise added that we are doing very well with the new classes and the instructors.

MISCELLANEOUS:

Denise passed out the 2016 Summer Brochure. The low bid was Quick Stop, with a price of $1,285.00 for 1,800 brochures.

Denise has applied for and received seasonal status for the summer staff.

Applications are now being received for summer positions.  Most of the staff from last year will be coming back but we are still looking for more.

Pool passes go on sale Friday, April 1. Residents can purchase them online, but non-residents have to come to the office. There are a limited number available. The pool will open, weekends only, beginning Saturday, June 4. The official opening will be the last day of school, June 20, at 1:00 p.m.

An early registration for the All Day Summer Program for parents of children that have been enrolled in the Before/After School Programs since September, will be made available from April 7-10. This is our way of thanking them for their participation throughout the school year. This has always been very well received, and the parents are very appreciative of this opportunity.

Denise met with the Board of Selectmen Monday, March 7, to review the issue of non-resident passes, specifically related to babysitters and nanny issue. Denise stated the policy of 400 passes was set in place years ago by former selectmen. During the course of the season Denise said that there are some people that will come and ask for non-resident passes after they have been sold out. They are told they can pay the day rate, but she has to follow the policy set by the selectmen and her hands are tied.

Denise suggested the selectmen allow her to increase the numbers by a small amount to sell at $78.00. They are still non-residents and will have full access to the pool. The family who is hiring the nanny must come in and purchase the pass and it will be linked the family name. Everyone was in agreement with this suggestion and Tim will report the information to the Selectmen.

Lisa made the following motion:

After 400 non-resident pool passes have been sold, Denise has the discretion to sell more non-resident passes for nannies and/or caretakers. The families requiring a pass for their nanny and/or caretaker must purchase a non-resident pass at the rate of $78.00 at the Recreation Department office. Robin seconded the motion. The motion was approved 4-0.

Tim Ethier discussed the topic of supporting saving the land space and preserving the green space in the Town of Holden. He asked for the committee’s help in raising awareness and spreading the word. All members were in agreement with the topic. Robin suggested a Facebook page and Tim thought that was a good idea. He also encouraged the members to attend the town meeting in May.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:03 p.m.

The next Recreation Committee meeting will be held on April 12, 2016 @ 7:00 p.m. at the Recreation Office.
