Recreation Committee Meeting Minutes

Lisa Post called the Recreation Committee meeting to order at 7:08 p.m.

 

Minutes:   Motion made by Erin Bradbury to accept the minutes of February 13, 2018, seconded by

 Lisa Post.    Accepted 2 – 0.   2 Abstained

 

Director’s Report

Before/After School Programs – All 3 elementary schools are at maximum capacity with 52 children in the morning and afternoon.

Adult Programs – A new session of classes started at the end of March:  Barre/P90X – 8 registered; Big Ball CCYO – 11 registered; Butts & Guts – 14 enrolled; Hatha Yoga (Tuesday) – 11 registered; Rope Burn, Strength and Core – 8 registered; Yoga for Every “Body” – 7 enrolled.  Classes scheduled to start during April include:  Barre Bell – 4 currently registered; Belly Dancing; CCYO – 7 registered; Gentle Hatha Yoga – 10 registered; Hatha Yoga (Thursday) – 9 enrolled.

Children’s Classes – Kids Yoga (ages 10 – 15) – 12 registered; Kids Yoga – Let’s Play

 (ages 5 – 9) – 13 registered.

            Volleyball/Basketball – Men’s basketball and women’s volleyball continue to be successful.  Seems to be a trend of younger women joining the volleyball.  A women’s basketball program meets at Davis Hill on Monday’s.

           

Summer - Summer brochures were distributed to the 3 elementary schools on Friday March 23, 2108. 

Interviews are scheduled next week for the openings in the summer programs.  All WSI’s are returning from last year.

Pool passes went on sale Monday, April 2, 2018.  Of the 200 non-resident passes 77 have been sold.  Resident passes – 127 family passes, 154 single passes and 9 senior passes have been purchased, along with 4 nanny passes.

Early registration for the All Day Program was held from April 5 – 8.  Four of the 8 weeks sold out with 65 children per week.  There are 17 slots open for the remainder of the weeks.  General registration begins Saturday May 12th at 9:00 for residents, and Sunday May 13th for non-residents.  All activities/classes are available to non-residents who don’t purchase a pool pass for double the cost.

The fields have not been released due to the snow and rainy weather.  Building and Grounds were expected to be on the fields starting yesterday.  Denise will reach out to the leagues seeking volunteers for field grooming after Building & Grounds has removed all the hazards and addressed the basic need on all of the fields.

 

Eagle Lake – Eagle Lake Committee gave their final report to the Board of Selectman at their

 April 10th meeting.  They are looking to the Town for assistance with the cost of the study.  The estimated cost of the study would be $65,000.00.  The Board of Selectman and the Town Manager will bring the information to the Finance Committee to appropriate the funds for the study, which would then need approval at town meeting.

The next Committee meeting will be held on Tuesday May 8, 2018 @ 7:00 p.m. in the Recreation Office.
