Recreation Committee Minutes

November 12, 2014

Members Present:   Erin Bradbury, Melissa Staiti, Robin Grady,

Members Absent:    Lisa Post, Nancy Owens

Others Present:       Denise Morano, Recreation Director

                                  Angela Greene, Recording Secretary

The meeting was called to order by Erin Bradbury at 7:15 p.m.

Minutes:      A motion was made by Melissa, seconded by Erin to accept the

                      minutes of the October 14, 2014 meeting.

                     The minutes from the October 14, 2014 meeting were approved

                     and accepted unanimously.

Director’s Report: 

            Programs:

          Before/After School Programs

            Davis Hill – 52 AM and 52 PM (wait list 8 AM and 5 PM)

            Mayo         - 52 AM and 52 PM (wait list 17 AM and 3 PM)

            Dawson     - 28 AM and 49 PM

   We currently care for 285 children on a daily basis.

        Adult Classes

Denise went over the numbers for the Adult Classes. CCYo (cardio, core training and     Yoga) has 19 registered; Yoga for Every “Body” has 12 registered; Re-Shape has 8 registered; Hatha Yoga (Tues and Thurs morning classes) has 29 registered. The men’s basketball and women’s volleyball drop-in classes have strong numbers. Robin asked about volleyball numbers Denise said there were usually a total of 11-14.

        Wrestling

The class is scheduled to begin Friday, Dec. 5 in the new studio. We have 28 children registered to date. There will be an information meeting for parents and children on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 5:30 at a place to be determined. We are hoping to have the building done by the time of the program.  Denise said that the doors, glass panels and windows are going in today.  The rugs are scheduled for next week. Robin asked how communication will be made Denise said that it will be on the Electronic Board next week.

Santa

Everyone has been contacted about the Santa Program. The Girl Scouts have already filled the “goodie bags”, and Santa is excited to visit Holden again this year.  Denise said that he comes at 5pm. Denise asked where can big bags of popcorn be purchased. Erin said it would be nice to have some pre-popped.

   Miscellaneous:

    Licensing

The licensor from the Department of Early Education and Care visited us on

October 23 , to review our files for the purpose of relicensing the Mayo School Before and After School Programs. He also made a site visit to check on the Program and asked questions to both the students and the staff. All 3 schools are now licensed until October 2016. Denise added that we did very well and that the licensor asked the kids questions and that they had all the right answers.

   Office Space

The new office and program spaces are still undergoing work. I am looking forward to being moved there at the end of this month. Denise said the painting is done.  Robin asked about Recreation sign. Denise said she’s not sure about it at this time.  Melissa asked about a banner near the Police Department. Denise said that we advertise Pool Passes and Adult Classes on the Electronic Board. Melissa suggested a board for just our activities. Erin asked if we can have the next meeting at the new office. Denise said that we can we just need to post it 48 hours before.
