 November 8, 2016

Lisa called the Recreation Committee meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

 

Minutes:     

 

A motion was made by Melissa and seconded by Erin to accept the minutes of the      October 11, 2016 meeting.

The minutes of October 11, 2016 were approved 4-0.

 

Director’s Report

 

Programs:

 

Denise went over the numbers for the children’s programs:

Before/After School Programs - All 3 elementary schools are at maximum capacity with 312 children enrolled. We have had some movement but were able to take children from waitlists and fill the spots.

Babysitting – another babysitter’s training class has been added on December 28 because the November 8 class sold out. This will be the 3rd class offered this season.

Junior’s Cooking – this 4 week class sold out with 16 registered. This class is for 10-15 year old kids. Robin asked if there is that wide of an age range that signed up. Denise said yes and the kids have really taken a shine to the class.

Wrestling – we are accepting registrations for the new format for the wrestling program. We currently have 15 registered for the k – grade 3 class, and 15 registered for grades 4 – 8. These classes begin November 28 at Davis Hill School.

Gingerbread House – a class is scheduled for Saturday December 10, from noon – 2:00 for kids ages 10 – 15 to build a gingerbread house. The cost is $45, 4 registered. A minimum of 6 is needed to make this class a go. It should be in the paper this week.

Gingerbread Ornaments – a gingerbread cookie ornament class is scheduled for Thursday, December 8 from 6 – 7:00 p.m. for kids ages 10 – 15 to decorate 2 edible gingerbread cookies and 1 keepsake ornament cinnamon cookie. The cost is $28.00, 1 currently registered.

Denise added that all of these classes are being held in the conference room and we are making great use of our space.

Butts & Guts – This 4 week class for teens, ages 12 – 18 is being offered on Tuesday afternoons from 4:15 – 5:15 beginning November 29, and costs $40.00.

Denise went over the numbers for the adult programs:

Noon Hour Barre – Fridays from noon – 12:50, started October 28 with 5 registered.

Barre/P90X – Classes start this week on Wednesday from 6 – 7 p.m. with 13 registered, and Saturday from 8 – 9 a.m. with 6 registered. Registration is still open

Butts & Guts – Tuesday and Thursday classes start November 29 and December 1 from 5:45 – 6:45 p.m. 3 are currently registered.

CCYO – classes begin Thursday, November 10 and Tuesday, November 22 from

6 – 7 p.m. at Mayo. There are 19 registered.

 Fit Camp (new) – beginning Wednesday, November 30 from 7 – 8 a.m. No registrations. We are redoing this class because we didn’t have much enthusiasm the last time it was offered.

Gentle Hatha Yoga – begins tomorrow, from 9 – 10 a.m. with 6 registered.

Hatha Yoga – started today from 9 – 10 a.m., with 11 registered, and Thursday with 8 enrolled.

Restorative Yoga – this class was held last Friday evening and had 8 participants. The classroom was set up really well and it was very well received.

Take the Challenge (new) – begins Monday, November 28 from 12:15 – 1:15 for 4 weeks. No registrations.

Yoga for Every “Body” – an old favorite. Thursday evenings beginning November 10, from 7 – 7:50 at Mayo. Currently 8 registered. Typically this will go up to 15.

Holiday Wreath Making – scheduled for Monday, December 5, from 7 – 9 p.m. Currently there are 6 registered. We need 15 to make it a go.

Men’s Basketball runs every Thursday evening at Mayo.

Women’s Volleyball was finally given the okay to resume their Thursday evening activity on October 27.  They are having a wonderful time.

Miscellaneous:

The girl scouts are filling the goodie bags for Santa’s arrival. Please arrive at the First Congregational Church on Saturday, December 3 by 3:15. We will once again make hot chocolate and pop popcorn. Girl scouts will arrive at 4:00 p.m., they will take their places on the stairs at 4:30 p.m. and Santa arrives at 5:00 p.m.

Denise asked if anyone had been to a Winter Festival meeting. Lisa said she will try to attend next Tuesday or contact a member as a representative for the Recreation Committee to have questions answered.

The Holden pool won the category of “Best Place to Swim” in the Landmark’s Reader’s Choice Awards!

The meeting was adjourned at 8:00 p.m.      

 

The next Recreation Committee meeting will be held on January 10, 2016 @ 7:00 p.m. at the Recreation Office.
