The Zoning Board of Appeals held a public hearing on May 15, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. in Memorial Hall in the Town Hall, 1196 Main Street on the Application of Clauda Tannous for property located at 8 Cedar Road for a SPECIAL PERMIT for a home occupation.

Members in attendance:
R. Spakauskas, R. Fraser, J. Deignan and R. Butler.

The Chairman called the hearing to order and the secretary read the application and
Findings of Fact.  The applicant addressed the Board and explained that she would like to open a beauty salon in her home.  She also stated that her husband passed away five years ago and then she lost her job after 25 years.  She would like to run her own business to support herself and she is skilled in this field.

R. Butler commented that there were no days and hours of operation noted on her application.  Ms. Tannous said her intention is to be open Tuesday and Wednesday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Thursday and Friday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

J. Deignan asked for confirmation that the salon would be in the basement as the plan noted the removal of the existing garage door.

Mr. Coury, 11 Allen Road, spoke in favor of granting this special permit.  He informed the Board that his property abuts the applicant’s and they have been neighbors for 20 years.  He noted that she is very respectful to her neighbors and is a valued member of the neighborhood.

R. Fraser asked about signage.  The applicant said she would like to have a sign next to the entrance door.  The Board confirmed that a two-foot square sign is allowed.

Since there were no further comments or questions, the public hearing was closed at 7:15 p.m.

The Board unanimously voted to grant the special permit with the following conditions:  1)  There will be no employees;  2)  There will be no more than two (2) customers at one time;   3) Signage is limited to two (2) square feet; 4)  Days and hours of operation will be Tuesday and Wednesday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Thursday and Friday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
