Open Brush Burn 1/15-5/1

1. Permit holder must activate permit each time they burn by calling Holden Fire Brush Burn at 1-855-937-0555.   

2. The permit holder shall have sufficient fire controlling equipment available during the entire fire. The permit holder shall be liable for fire department costs in the event of loss of control of the permitted fire.

3.Open burning begins at 10:00am and shall be completely extinguished and put out by 4:00pm the same day.

4. This permit does not release the holder from any liability for damage.

5. In case of winds of excess of 15 miles per hour, or otherwise dangerous conditions, this permit shall be invalid. Open burning is only valid for days the Town of Holden Fire Department and Department of Environmental Protection allow burning. Refer to Massachusetts General Law Chapter 48, Section 13 regarding open air burning state regulations.

6. No burning: trash, leaves, construction materials, stumps, hay, grass, flammable materials, household & yard waste, petroleum products, milled lumber, weather treated/painted materials, stumps or branches in excess of 4 inches in diameter.

7. This permit is not valid for lot or land clearing.

8. Open brush burning shall be on land approximate to the place of generation of such material, and no closer than 75 feet to a building.

9. Smoke minimizing starter shall be used.

10. The open brush fire shall not be left unattended at any time nor cause a public nuisance.

11. This permit shall be shown to anyone who may request to see it.

12. Periodic spot checks will be conducted. This permit may be revoked by properly identified persons authorized to enforce the above laws.
